Notes from the SME regarding First Aid: Medical Emergencies:
Emergencies can strike without notice and proper first aid can preserve life, prevent further harm, and promote recovery. The incidents one may encounter include a suspected heart attack in the breakroom, fainting on the worksite, snake bite while walking through brush, or wet hands turning to frostbite on a cold day. The goal of first aid is to prevent injuries and save lives and with the right training you could be your co-worker’s hero. The outcome of many incidents may depend on the severity of the issue and how quickly first aid can be given. Prompt properly administered first aid care can mean the difference between life and death in extreme cases, however, in non-life-threatening situations, it can still be the difference between permanently losing a finger or extending the time spent in the hospital. This course will cover a variety of emergency scenarios and the appropriate first aid care, from; poisoning, illness, bites & stings, to medical emergencies to name a few. This course will also help to identify the potential symptoms and treatment efforts that can be undertaken while waiting for emergency medical services.
